Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Reader blues

Four days after returning from my weekend trip, I am still navigating through my Google Reader and emails and trying to clear them off. Ordinarily, when items pile up on my reader, I simply mark all as read, but I don't do that for book blogs. So amidst reading through the posts of my fellow bloggers, I am also trying to finish my first book of the year. Yeah, you heard it right! My first book of 2010, which is already 7 days old!

Thankfully, I only have a 100 pages more to read, but I definitely still have 350 blog posts to read. I guess by tonight, I should achieve both, clearing off my unread items and finishing off my current read. But guess what? Friday and Saturday, I am off to another short trip to San Diego, so I guess I will be back to square one again. LOL! Not that I mind it. On the contrary, I love reading book blogs and, in fact, I salivate when I see the unread count in my reader at a large number. But the sad thing is that I have alphabetically sorted the blogs in the reader. So since I am not reading the posts by oldest first, it could be some time before I get to some posts, which could be a week or two old.

On the plus side, I went to the local one dollar bookstore in Burbank, and bought a bunch of books. I am so happy and pleased with myself right now. I did feel like an excited kid who just got yet another new toy from his parents. I actually went to buy some of the books I was planning to read this month and the next, but as these things go, I ended up buying books outside my list. I will post the list of books on Monday.

Review of Erin Hart's Haunted Ground coming up as soon as I am done with the last 100 pages.

All I can say is my heart goes out to you. It's hard to find the right balance.

LOL! I live in Glendale. I can't let myself go to the $1 bookstore... I just can't! or rather my husband knows to keep a tight (pretend) leash on me when we go to the AMC there. He'd rather steer me to Ben & Jerry's and let me put on a pound or two rather than buy more books.

I am having the same problem with my Google Reader--I stopped reading it because it was taking away from my regular reading + my own blogging time. I'm afraid to see how many posts there are to read!

My reader adds 30 new posts each day, so well, you can imagine how many posts would be there if I let it catch dust for a few days! LOL! I am anyways learning to find the right balance, so hopefully, things will fall in place soon!
