Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. Library Loot - Feb 03, 2010

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva @ A Striped Armchair and Marg @ Reading Adventures that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

I'm guilty, yet again! Of going off to the library before reading the books I borrowed previously! And I'm off this weekend to pick more, since 3 holds just came through yesterday! We really should have had 48 hours in a day rather than the measly 24 hours, which just swim away way too fast! Apparently, we sleep 8 hours, and work 8 hours, then where are the remaining 8 hours?

I digress!

Anyways, this is what I picked last weekend:

  1. Precious by Sapphire. I was actually looking for Push, but my library only had the movie-tie-in edition. Does any one know if there's a difference between the two? I had previously read the first chapter, so I couldn't spot any differences. I hope it's the same as the original!
  2. White Oleander by Janet Fitch. I'm reading this book with Cheryl @ The Books I Read, for a Pen-Pal read in a Goodreads group. So I'm pretty excited about starting this!
What do you think of any of these books?

I think the movie tie-in edition is the same as Push - they're just trying to market of the movie's publicity. I've read both of those books and enjoyed them!
I have not read Precious, but did read White Oleander. I thought it was good, but depressing :(

I haven't read either of these - sounds as if they might be tearjerkers. Hope you enjoy them.:)

Kathy, thanks for clearing that one!

Diane, I did hear it's depressing, so I want to balance it with light reads before and after it! Hope it works! :)

Juju, I guess I better!

Michelle, can't wait to hear what you think of it!

Cat, thanks! :)
