Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Infinite Country tells the story of her family through the other protagonist, El

It's Monday! What are you reading? -- Mar 15, 2010

It's Monday! What are you reading this week?
This is a weekly event initially hosted by J. Kaye at J. Kaye's Book Blog, now by Sheila @ One Persons Journey through a world of Books, to celebrate what you are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week.

Books completed last week
I spent most of last week spring cleaning - my house, my laptop, my Google reader, my pending tasks from eons ago. So my reading didn't get anywhere. Zilch, I would say! Though I would have completed a couple, if some unexpected tasks didn't turn up.

I am currently reading

Liar by Justine Larbalestier: Last 2 discs. Really good read, though I won't recommend the audio book to you!

White Oleander by Janet Fitch: OMG! Did ever say this book isn't holding my interest? Now where is that offending post! I echo all of you who commented that this book is excellent. I'm glad I listened to you. I must have been out of my mind when I said I couldn't get into it. Correction: I couldn't put it down!!

My reading plans for the next week

Last Night in Montreal by Emily St. John Mandel: I will be picking this one up soon as I am done with White Oleander. I'm reading this one for the Spotlight Series, which incidentally started yesterday, so don't forget to visit the tour-stops of the same.

Sugar by Bernice L. McFadden: I received this one for review last month, and plan to read it this week.

Hmm.. Adding White Oleander to my TBR list now!

Here is my Monday: http://thelostentwife.net/2010/03/14/its-monday-what-are-you-reading-12/
Liar is on my TBR! And from your comment - not on my TBLT (to be listened to) LOL

Enjoy this week as well - Sugar looks like it could be really good!

Those are some intriguing books on your list! I've been letting spring cleaning take the place of reading, too. Definitely prefer reading! Enjoy your books this week.

I had some issues getting into White Oleander too. Once I was in I was hooked.

I think I may add Sugar to my TBR.

Happy reading!

Oh, I can't wait to hear what you think of Liar - bummer that the audio isn't great, or so it sounds. And I hope you enjoy Last Night in Montreal - another one I'm hoping to read sometime.

Isn't that just how it is? You end up with a couple of "random" things coming up during the week and all your reading just goes down the drain! But I'm glad to hear you were able to get so much else accomplished! The Google Reader is a huge one!

Can't wait to hear about Sugar! Hope you have a fabulous reading week!
I just read a good review of Sugar. I hope you enjoy it!
I have both of these books to read as well. Now all I need is time, time, time--enjoy!
