Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Infinite Country tells the...

It's Monday! What are you reading? -- Mar 29, 2010

It's Monday! What are you reading this week?
This is a weekly event initially hosted by J. Kaye at J. Kaye's Book Blog, now by Sheila @ One Persons Journey through a world of Books, to celebrate what you are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week.

Books completed last week
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling (Re-read): It really is quite a delight to revisit Hogwarts. Though when I read it this time, I did notice a few things that bugged me, which I wasn't bothered about as a teen reader. I won't be reviewing this book, but I'll do a special feature on this series some time this week.
- The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella (To be reviewed): I. Love. Sophie Kinsella!

Books reviewed from the previous week
- Last Night in Montreal by Emily St. John Mandel

I am currently reading
I was supposed to be reading The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs, but unfortunately the return date came too soon, and I couldn't renew it since, err, I had already renewed it thrice. ::blush:: So that was a big bummer! But the good news it, the audio book is available in my library, and I've just put a hold on it. So nop, I am not giving up on it! Yet!

The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien: Didn't get anywhere with this book the past week, but hoping to get some major reading done this week.
The Geometry of Sisters by Luanne Rice: I am not a fan of mushy family novels, which is why I am listening to this one and not reading it. I almost never listen to a book that I think I will like. Weird, huh! Like wasting my listening time! But then I find it hard to like audio books, so I save the potentially good books for my eyes. I read True Colors by Kristin Hannah last year, and didn't like it. This one so far isn't bad, but I'm hoping for it to be different from other books of this genre.

My reading plans for the next week

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling: I'll probably do one book of this series per week!

Not sure what else I will be reading, but I'm trying not to plan in advance but just pick what I feel like reading.

Ohh THE TWO TOWERS!! Good choice :)
An HP re-read sounds like fun! I don't think I've ever read any Sophie Kinsella. I should check her out. Enjoy your books!

I should really take the time to re-read the Harry Potter book - I understand they're outstanding on audio. I hope you have a great week in books!

I just started a new book that reads a lot like Lord of the Rings. I have never read Kinsella but the book looks interesting I may have to give it a try.Have a great week
I have read the Harry Potter books twice: once to myself and once aloud to my daughter (and that is A LOT of reading out loud). So fun!

You know, I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books yet, but someday I hope to! I look forward to your review of The Undomestic Goddess. It sounds like a good one.

I don't knit but I'm oddly obsessed with knitting tales.
Enjoy :)
I agree, I cant seem to get enough of Hogworths. The second book has been sitting out for months now for me to read as part of The Harry Potter Challenge and as much as I want to curl up with that old friend I keep passing it up for others I need to read.

Have a super week!

I have never read the Harry Potter series, but I have all but the last two. I look forward to getting into them one of these days.

I love Sophie Kinsella but I prefer her Shopaholic series above all her other books. I can't wait to read Mini Shopaholic.

I enjoy rereading Harry Potter too but I enjoy rereading the later books as opposed to Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets.

I hope you enjoy whatever you choose to read this week. I love The Lord of the Rings but it isn't for everyone.

The Undomestic Goddess wasn't my favourite Kinsella book, but it was still lots of fun! Enjoy rereading the Harry Potter books. I've been wanting to reread them again, but, sigh, just too many other books to read! ;)

LOTR is definitely a great read. I think I could reread that series many times and still pick up new details I didn't catch the first time reading it. I think I'm going to read Body Finder next, but I'm with you - it's fun to wait and see what my mood is before choosing my next book. Have a great week!

hi, Aths - Thanks for stopping by my blog and taking the time to comment!

We are all big Harry Potter fans at our house. My younger son was home sick today and watched one of the HP movies for the hundredth time!

You really fit in a lot of reading in a week!

Oh, and don't feel bad about the library book... I do the same thing!

What a guilty pleasure it would be to return to Hogwarts...I may just have to join you on that. I need a book I know I love already...reading slump. Blah.

Anyway...I hope you can get your hands on Friday Night Knitting Club again! And have a fabulous reading week!

Isn't Sophie Kinsella a hoot? She makes me laugh Out Loud, although I was never that confident when I was in my twenties. Shopoholic, walking into Tiffany's as if she owns the place...amazing!
ohhh!! harry potter! awesome! have a great reading week :)
I <3 the HP series too, had to re-read them again when the last movie came out :)

I'm listening to the first Harry Potter book this week just for fun (doesn't hurt that it counts toward the Harry Potter challenge too). I'm curious which things bugged you when you read it.

Wow- a lot of long books in this group. I listened to the HP series on tape as the books were a bit long for me to read.
Hope your week is great!
