Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Infinite Country tells the story of her family through the other protagonist, El

It's Monday! What are you reading? -- Apr 12, 2010

It's Monday! What are you reading this week?
This is a weekly event initially hosted by J. Kaye at J. Kaye's Book Blog, now by Sheila @ One Persons Journey through a world of Books, to celebrate what you are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week.

Books completed last week
- The Overnight Socialite by Bridie Clark (To be reviewed)

Books reviewed from the previous week
- The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella
- Revisiting Hogwarts Feature Part 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

I am currently reading

The Geometry of Sisters by Luanne Rice: I didn't really get anywhere with this book last week. I kept getting sidetracked and picked other books over this.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling: I am halfway through this book and might finish it in a couple of days. From this book onwards, I don't want to rush through the series, but rather read it slow enough and enjoy the journey!

My reading plans for the next week

Columbine by Dave Cullen: I planned to start this book last night, but Harry Potter kept me busy. I'll be hoping to start this today. After reading the plenty of good reviews, I can't wait to read this. It's a huge book and may take me some time to get through it.
Glorious by Bernice L. McFadden: This is my next book to read. But whether or not I get to it this week, depends on whether I finish the huge tome that is Columbine.

Great reads you are working on - I love all things Harry Potter so enjoy the book and your week! :D
Love Azkaban!

Columbine just sounds tough on a lot of levels, and I admire you for taking it on. I don't think I could. Sometimes I prefer to keep my head in the sand.

Enjoy your books this week!

I really enjoyed the Undomestic Goddess. I still haven't read any of the Harry Potter books *hiding face in shame* but I definitely want to make a start on them soon.

Excellent reading week. If you like The Geometry of Sisters be sure to read The Deep Blue Sea for beginners as it is Pell and Lucy Davis' story.

I have heard awesome things about Columbine; I remember watching the news clips when that horrible tragedy happened.

You're a book ahead of me again with the HP series. My oldest son is loving the audiobooks, my youngest not so much because he wants to be noisy and we are always shushing him so we can hear the book.

I've been wanting to read Columbine and even checked it out from the library, but other things came up and I didn't read it before I had to return it.
