Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. It's Monday! What are you reading? -- Apr 26, 2010

It's Monday! What are you reading this week?
This is a weekly event initially hosted by J. Kaye at J. Kaye's Book Blog, now by Sheila @ One Persons Journey through a world of Books, to celebrate what you are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week.

Books completed last week

I had one of my best reading weeks so far. That's funny because I also had one of my busiest weeks ever!
- Columbine by Dave Cullen
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling
- The Geometry of Sisters by Luanne Rice (To be reviewed)
- Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson (To be reviewed)
- Glorious by Bernice L. McFadden (To be reviewed)

Books reviewed
- Columbine by Dave Cullen
- Revisiting Hogwarts Feature Part 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

I am currently reading
I just finished Glorious a minute before writing this post, so at this moment, I have no reads going on. This is a first for me, since I almost always have an audio book going on, or some half-read books lying around.

My reading plans for the next week

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling: This is the first book of this series that I ever read. Although I've re-read this series many times since, it will still be fun to revisit it and figure out what about this book convinced me to grab the prequels and wait impatiently for the next 3.
Additionally, I will be reading either Push by Sapphire or The Color Purple by Alice Walker. Maybe both, if my work week allows it. I will also be picking an audio read.

My big plan of the week is to catch up on all the blogs I missed last week! And I so am looking forward to that!

Sounds like a good week ahead. I had a signed copy of Speak that I gave to a friend's daughter a couple of years ago. The author signed it for me at an NCTE conference. Anyway. Have a great week.

I read your review on Columbine and thought it was excellent. I will have to come back and see what you thought of Speak. I read this a long time ago and it is still a book my students enjoy reading. love Anderson. Have a great week.

You did have an impressive reading week!

I really enjoyed Goblet of Fire too. I think it was Prisoner of Azkaban that convinced me to keep reading but I was amazed by Goblet of Fire. I really liked that the books became more intense.

I've heard that Push is fantastic. I haven't read it (or watched the movie) but my sister really liked the book so maybe I will borrow it from her some time. I hope you like it.

Have a great week!

I loved Columbine too. So interesting!

What made you pick The Color Purple? I haven't read that yet, but I know I should.

I'd like to see what you think of Glorious. I understand it's Oprah's latest selection. I'm still trying to fight my way through Wolf Hall.

Great week! I am currently re-listening to the Harry Potter series and am up to Order of the Phoenix. Just like every time, I find myself making excuses to stay in the car and listen as long as possible each day. LOL!
