A lot going on | Weekly Snapshot

Hello everyone on a very wet day, at least in Southwest Ohio! We are expecting so much rain this week that I'm feeling happy on behalf of our garden. It's going to make stepping outside a little challenging though but there will be plenty of dry breaks with beautiful cool weather, so that should help.

Life last weekCouple of weeks back, we had a Covid-19 scare. A consultant who visited my husband's office the same day my husband was in office (he usually works from home) got diagnosed with Covid-19 couple of days later. Many who were in the office that day got tested. My husband thankfully drew a negative but a few others got positive results. We've overall been extremely careful when outside - always wearing masks, often sanitizing hands and frequently touched surfaces, and doing the same routine once we reach home. That said, it's always sad and scary to hear about someone close or nearby having tested positive. Sometime last year, when the flu season was in full…

The Sunday

Happy Mothers' Day to all wonderful moms out there!
Happy Mothers' Day to my amazing, always cheerful mom, who I miss a lot every day!

And that's definitely big praise, coming from Calvin!

I had one of my best weeks so far, because I didn't work at all. After two weeks of a hectic schedule, I took most of last week off - catching up on my online social life, which is far more interesting that my real life. I managed to catch up with my Google reader, and read a bit.

It's exam week till May 12th, and we had a bunch of undergrads partying downstairs since lunch yesterday. Excellent way to bring on the exams, I do admire their confidence. Maybe they are already done with their exams. But every other house in this compound have had their lights turned on, way into the early dawn, with so many of them trying to prepare for the exams. It would have been great if the enjoy-life-as-it-comes party-ers didn't try to force their life principles on those studying. Anyways, I have no complaints, since I had been done with my courses last semester itself.

The coming week is the last week of the Spring semester, and I sure am going to miss the student community at Blacksburg, most of whom will probably return home or start their summer internships. I'll still be here during summer, writing my thesis, but it will be in the midst of a much smaller crowd on campus. Even without being a city or having any significant landmarks, Blacksburg is still a wonderful place to be. So much so that I'm currently enjoying The Lumby Lines by Gail Fraser, which is about a quaint lazy town, where everyone knows everyone else, and the favorite pastime of the residents is reading the Sheriff's report in the newspaper. Ok, we have it much better here, of course. And everyone doesn't know everyone else, considering we have a population of almost 40000. Plenty of fun activities to keep the town always young. But there's still a small-town feel that I can identify with better than in a major city like LA or SF.

How's your Sunday? The moms out there, anything special planned for the day? I sure hope so!

For mother's day, I made a major decision and am happy about it! The rains have stopped but it's a bit chilly but sunny! Happy Mom's day!
It's great that you've been able to relax and get some reading done. That's always needed! And Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

Lovely post. I'm off to spend the day with my mom. I hope you have a beautiful relaxing Sunday.
Time off sounds pretty good to me! Summer is almost here.... Today my mom, my daughter and I are headed out shopping and then to see a local production of Singing in the Rain. Not a bad day.

I love what you said about wishing the partiers hadn't foisted their "take it as it comes" philosophy on the studiers. :-) That's a nice way to put it!

Love the mother's day comics!

Aw - I love Calvin and Hobbies <3

It sounds like undergrads are the same everywhere. Nothing wrong with partying, but some of us need to study and/or sleep, yes? Ah, the memories...
Such a cute cartoon. I am so happy that you had two relaxing weeks (we all need that now and then).

My son won't finish up the semester until Wednesday and then he'll have a short break before summer school. As ready as he is to graduate, I think he's also feeling sad about leaving the 'Burg.

Book Dilettante, I'm so glad that this day helped you in taking a decision. It's nice sometimes to do that. Sort of a new year resolution, but not made at new year itself. :)

Emidy, Alyce & Diane, I agree. Otherwise I might have become a zombie! :)

Juju, hope you have a fun time with your mom!

Helen, that does sound like fun! 3 generations of wonderful women out having fun, esp shopping!!

Stephanie, I tried to be nice about it. :) Even with all that noise boring a hole in my ear drum.

Nymeth, I love C&H too! Oh so true, party all you want, ye ungrateful undergrads! Just allow us mere mortals to study and sleep! (A spin off of Rubeus Hagrid and Gimli, son of Gloin.)

Kathy, that does sound like my sentiments too! I will miss BBurg!
