The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. Natasha of Maw Books is holding the next Bloggiesta on June 11-13. I'll be sad to miss it this time, especially considering that I had been looking forward to it for quite some time. So instead, I will most likely be making small cosmetic changes over next few weeks. Nothing major, probably just organizing the sidebar, and tweaking a few links. Are you doing it? Monday onwards, I will come by your blogs and probably add more to my list of to-do's for my blog. I love playing with blog designs, so long as I don't have to draw a thing. I can't draw to save my life!
So the reason I can't take part in Bloggiesta is ...
I wish I were heading to the beach but...
it's DC instead!
Can you imagine that I had been planning to visit DC ever since I came here in 2008? Each time, something or the other would spoil the best-laid plans. The last time, it was when the weather gods cast a huge dump all across the East Coast during our first blizzard the past winter. My friends and I were lucky to get all our money back after booking a hotel and renting a car. Well, this time, I am keeping my fingers crossed *touchwood* that nothing untoward crops up. Even the weather is expected to hit the 90s during that weekend. I will be leaving on Friday evening, be in DC on Saturday and most of Sunday, will go to an A.R. Rahman concert on Sunday night and then be back early Monday morning. (I may or may not have posts scheduled for the weekend. I am currently struggling to get my first draft of my thesis out to my Professor before leaving to DC. So it depends on how much of that work I get done.)
So if you have been to DC, what should I not miss? If you haven't, well, what would you love to visit most of all?

Museum of Natural History and Lincoln Memorial are my favorites :)
Next time, I am totally going to the spy museum.
Have fun :D
Juju, wow, spy museum sounds kinda cool! I can't wait to go to DC!
Madigan, that is THE place I want to go to in DC, especially after reading all those descriptions in Lost Symbol!
Kathy, that canal ride looks awesome!! Have to do that!
Helen, wow .. there is so much to see there that I doubt I will be able to cover it all! But I look forward to going there regularly and visit those places.
If you have your choice, obviously for just a really neat and fun choice I'd go to the Natural History Museum. But if you only make it to one place and can get in, I'd go to the Holocaust Museum. It's an incredible experience that I think everyone should have, but make sure to bring the kleenex!
Have a fabulous time! And take lots of pictures!
Lisa, I had a wonderful time! I can't wait to go back there!
