Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. mailboxmonday This meme is hosted by Marcia @ The Printed Page. It is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week (checked out library books don’t count, eBooks & audio books do).

Remember I won quite a lot of books during Armchair BEA week? Some more of those books tumbled in during the last couple weeks. Wings by Aprilynne Pike was a win at Kai's Fiction State of Mind. I've not read any books featuring faeries yet (if you don't count the Mortal Instruments series). So this will be a change from what I usually read, but one that I am looking forward to.

A couple of months ago, when I saw this book on at least half the blogs I follow, I was so envious that I wanted one for myself. Luckily for me, I won Read, Remember, Recommend through a giveaway on the author Rachelle Rogers Knight's blog, Bibliobabe. Come back tomorrow, when I will have my review of this book up, but as a preview, I'll say that you should get this book!

The God of the Hive by Laurie R. King was a win via Twitter. Right now, I need to hide a bit. Because I have to confess that I have not read this series. What's worse -- I had not heard about it either until I won the book. I was quite aghast and ashamed when I realized that this is the 10th book of the Mary Russell series. I should definitely go grab the preceding books, but I have a question for those of you who read some part of this series. Is it necessary to read it in order?

I also received Ann Putnam's Full Moon at Noontide: A Daughter's Last Goodbye courtesy of Pump Up your Book! book tour. The synopsis of this book interested me enough to want to request it. This memoir takes the reader through Ann's life and her relationships with her mother, father and uncle, and also talks of losing her husband to cancer. Definitely a tear-jerker, and I've read a couple of moving reviews.

Finally, I also received THE book I was waiting for - The Passage by Justin Cronin. Ever since this book was delivered, I've been staring at it and at my calendar, wondering when I can get to it. I do have a few books to read asap, so I may not get to it till July. But here's hoping that I get through my current reads as soon as possible, so that I can open up summer's much-anticipated read, before the summer if up! After reading the many reviews of this book so far, it's quite hard to keep myself off it.

Have you read any of these books?

Congrats on winning the God of the Hive book. You don't have to read the entire series but you will need to read The Language of Bees for this book to make sense. Pussreboots.
I haven't read any of these, but they look good.

I've been seeing The Passage around on blogs...

Here's my MM:

I didn't know The God of the Hive was a part of a series either. Good thing I read this post because I was thinking of picking this one up.
