The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. Books on my nightstand
I had planned to do a readathon this weekend, but that didn't pan out, because I spent most of my time with friends. But I am in the middle of three books right now.

This book is making for interesting reading. The boy protagonist has a bunch of virtual friends, who do actual communications with him. At some point, it isn't hard to believe they exist and become lost in that world. Didn't we all have imaginary friends at some point in our lives?
The Passage by Justin Cronin:
This one sure is going exciting. I am not too far into the book, but I have a feeling that I will like this one!
Blankets by Craig Thompson:
I surely have to exclaim WOW here! I was initially pensive about reading this one, knowing that it is serious. But one minute into the book, and I couldn't put it down. It was engaging! It IS engaging!
