Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Yet another week has gone by with me failing in my reading. Each day after returning home from work, I feel overwhelmed by all that is there to do. Which is funny, because I could do nothing and still not suffer any wrath! I guess I'm having a harder time settling down into a routine than I hoped. So I'm challenging myself to spend most of this week reading as much as possible. Conveniently for me, there is a Fall Catch-up read-a-thon organized by The True Book Addict, between Sept 20th and 26th. I'm hoping this will set me into my old reading routine, in time for Dewey's read-a-thon.

The exciting part of last week was getting my new Droid X. I love love LOVE it! I spent whole of Friday browsing it and adding app after app, organizing and reorganizing it. So far, I think it's really sleek, dashing and extraordinarily handsome! Any ideas for a name are welcome! (Of course, it should be a handsome and seducing name too!) One thing I was disappointed about with the iPhone, was its touch screen. It didn't respond as well to my touch (although my friends disagreed with me). Maybe, but I hate having to tap twice or harder just to get a response. I loved how easy it was to navigate on the Droid X. I got so addicted to the touch screen, that I've been chatting on it instead of PC, even though my laptop was right beside me. The other wonderful thing was that I have set Google Voice on it, so I get all the benefits of Google voice in addition to limited minute usage! So any Droid users out there? What are you favorite apps - esp the bookish ones?

Yeah, so a new house, a new car and now a new mobile - I'm finally broke. I had to wait till payday to pay off my bills. It wasn't that drastic, but I'm not used to seeing the number on my accounts as they stand now. I slowed down my book purchasing too, which is silly because I have some gift cards waiting to be spent.

Anyways, I'm hoping for a more "normal", saner week! Happy reading and Happy blogging!

I hate that feeling when you've had major purchases and you see that savings account look totally different!

I have the iPhone and I absolutely love it -- that's weird that you had to tap on harder! I have so many apps on there, and I had to reorganize and delete a ton of stuff -- I was a tad bit too addicted to some of the silly games!
Congrats with your new toy. I have the iPhone and love it. I have no problem with touch and love all the apps.

I have an iPhone and I love it. I've never seen a Droid in person, but I would love to play with one. I could never go back to a regular cell phone after having a smart phone - they are certainly addictive! Have fun with your new toy and don't pressure yourself to read - it'll come.

Wow, that Droid sounds amazing. I don't have one, nor have I "played with" one, but I know my daughter will be clamoring for it.

Sounds like a good week, despite the reading slump....settling in takes a lot of energy.

I had an original Droid which drove me crazy, but I upgraded to the Incredible (similar to the Droid X) and I love it! Enjoy your new phone (and house and car)

Yay for new toys! I've been hearing very good things about the new Droid. I still have my Blackberry Storm, but I get to upgrade next spring. I'm looking at either the Droid or hoping that Verizon gets with the program and adds the iPhone to its line-up. We shall see!

Good luck with getting into a routine! I know how disruptive a lack of a routine can be.
I have a Nokia smart phone. It's probably not as advanced as a Droid or iphone, but it's pretty good. I love the touch screen!

Wanted to stop by and thank you for signing up for my read-a-thon. Be sure to come back by and sign in at the starting line (I'll have the post with the linky up in the morning) whenever you officially start the read-a-thon. Everyone who signs in at the starting line will be entered in my giveaway. I'm also doing a mini-challenge with a two book prize from author Charlie Courtland! I hope you get lots of reading done this week. =O)
