The Sunday Salon (In which I'm already gushing about 2011) - Jan 30, 2011

I am feeling quite exhilarated right now. Well, that's just one of the emotions I'm feeling, because I'm still thinking of a particular book I just finished five minutes back. Fingers crossed, I have a feeling that 2011 is going to be a great year in books for me. (Wait for a minute while I do the touchwood thing.) I don't know about quantity, but quality certainly. I've just finished my second WOW read of the year - The Good Daughter by Jasmin Darznik. This book, primarily set in Iran, is an account of the life of Jasmin's mother, Lili, and Lili's relationship with her parents, grandparents and a whole host of characters. It's captivating, poignant and very unputdownable. There's a lot more superlatives I can use here, but I hope you get the gist now.

I've already mentioned my first WOW book of the year - Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. I realize that I have two amazing books to review soon and I don't even know where or how to start. Besides I have one more book to finish by Monday - Someone Else's Garden by Dipika Rai. So with all the books in my pile and their adjacent review dates, I've been mostly reading during the past few days. Which is why I haven't blogged for 2-3 days now. I have plenty of plans for my blog this week - reviews and then a new feature with Ash that we'll announce soon.

Other than books, it's been mostly work on my plate. I didn't think I could get any busier than I am, but it sure doesn't seem like 24 hours is enough in a day.

Besides, my family is finally coming here next week, and I'm so eagerly waiting for them. I've missed my mom's food for about two years now, and could do with a little pampering for a change. Things are looking up finally, now if only I had a little more free time.

Ok, now I am adding the Good Daughter to my list for sure (be sure to post the review to the Middle East Reading Challenge if you want more people to see it and read the book!). I am pleased for you that your family is coming to visit; a good dose of family can be so wonderful!

I've enjoyed books by Ann Patchett, but haven't read Bel Canto. Sounds like something I should check out.
