Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Infinite Country tells the story of her family through the other protagonist, El

Some bookish chatter - Now I've seen it all (a blank book on a bestseller list?)

Honestly, one of these days you'll be receiving an advance copy of my yet-to-be-written new book. Yet-to-be-written is right, because I'm thinking of leaving it entirely blank, if that's all I need to make sure it becomes a bestseller. On nothing less that Amazon, to be sure.

Did you hear about that news earlier this week? I'm still scratching my heads wondering what I'm missing in this picture. Is it the title - one that jumps at you from even a mile away? Or is it that people have been running out of blank paper at home?

Telegraph had this picture up on their post.

I'm thinking about the number of trees that went into putting this book way up there! Esp if this is also a bestseller. On the other hand, students have been buying this book to use as notebooks for their lectures. So maybe the world's not so crazy after all.

I never thought I would live to see this. Amazon should reshelve this book to the stationary section.

Great post btw :)
I'm baffled - I guess it would make a great gag gift?

How about making it a free e-book? They could send a file that is all blank except one title page and we'd all feel better (maybe) about the waste! What a disaster; great post!

I can't even believe that they published it! A blank book, honestly!

I can relate to that. For two days, I've only been asking the question, How?

I don't know who is buying it, but what a ridiculous waste of paper and money.

The author mentioned that was his original intention - to make it available as a souvenir. Looks like people are buying it for fun now.

I agree! He could have released a blank research paper, an ebook, a single page souvenir. But a whole 200 page book!?!

My dad has one of these books from over 20 years ago, it was small but also approx 200 blank pages. I can't remember the cover, something similar about what men think. I remember thinking funny and also if people buy books without looking in them, then get home and realise it is a joke :-0

Now that's funny. I think some buyers were at least intrigued by the title and didn't look at what's inside. Others must have seen it as a joke. The whole idea is certainly a joke to me, but I'm aghast it's a bestseller!

I've seen this one! Someone gave it to my BIL last years for his birthday. It is funny but you're right, what a waste of paper. And seriously, a bestseller?
That is pretty unbelievable! I mean, really. And once you give that as a gift, the person looks at it once, laughs, then puts it on a shelf -- or passes it along to another unsuspecting person. Meh.

The bestseller part is what I don't get. This blank book is actually in those rankings even ahead of the Harry Potters and the Dan Browns!

I know, right? If that person is like me, it will just languish on the shelf, because I'll be hesitant to even tamper with it.
