Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. The Sunday

It's been a while since I blogged. Probably not that long since I checked out my Google Reader, but I do feel that I've been absent for a week at least. There has been quite a lot of things happening over at my place, starting with the death of my laptop battery. I have to keep shaking the laptop, move the lid forward and backward, do some funny dances once in a while, change my seating position, maybe even yell in frustration because I can ooze some charge into the battery. While I'm waiting for the replacement to arrive, it is no fun doing any antics on this screen.

And then, it was a Spring Cleaning week. I can't believe the stuff that comes out of every corner of my house. Stuff I never knew I possessed. Taking a leaf out of Ash's book, I bagged a lot of clothes that I haven't worn in a year. There's still more that I expect to bag later. But I already feel better about my slimmer fitter apartment.

And then, the weekend was so much fun! Friday was graduation day. Although I had officially graduated last year over the summer, it was only now that I got the pictures to prove it, after attending the ceremony in full regalia. The event in itself was funner than I expected it to be. My friends and I came to the event only because we made a deal to do so last year. But one year later, the whole prospect didn't sound as grand. Still, it was so much fun. We were all so giddy and drunk with excitement, as most of us were meeting after a year. Plus, yesterday, two of my friends and I went to Smith Mountain Lake for some quiet and some hiking.

Besides, with Blogger being down for a few days, my Friday Leif Reads post didn't come up, so instead I have it scheduled for this Friday. Moreover, I certainly remember visiting and commenting on many of your blog posts, but it looks like those comments were lost by Blogger during the downtime.

Today, I'm planning on preparing my posts for the week. I don't do that usually, but I plan to, this time, because I do have a tendency to disappear from the face of blogosphere occasionally and writing those posts that need to be written would be a good idea. Meanwhile, after not reading much for two weeks, I would love to pick some book and get myself lost in it. What have I missed in the blogosphere? I figure that with the excitement of the upcoming BEA, there should hopefully not be much that I missed!

It is great to spring clean and get rid of things but also make space for new :-). The blogger issue was definitely a pain. hope your battery comes soon, I have been there totally sucks.

How fun that you all got together to go through the ceremony. I think ceremonies are important since they allow us to celebrate/honor a person or event. Oh, and getting rid of clothes you never wear.... I am all over that! I hate staring in my closet and feeling like there is nothing to wear because so much of it is "wrong" for whatever reason. Have a great week!

I like your blog name....ouch on the battery...I hate when things like that happen.  Hope the battery arrives soon.

Found your name on the BEA Armchair list and wanted to stop by.

Glad you had fun at the graduation.  It's nice to get together and visit after so long.  I need to do some serious spring cleaning.  I just took out my summer clothes and I'm hoping it'll be warm enough to wear them.  Hope you have a great week!

It took many days of staring at my closet and thinking that I have nothing to wear to work to finally make me decide to prune my stuff. Phew. That felt totally good to do!

I'd do the cleaning more often if I can keep buying more new stuff! :)

I can trade places with you any time, you know. Right now, it's rainy here, but otherwise it's very summery! Still, I can't wait to buy new stuff!
