In mood for a vacation | Weekly Snapshot

Yet another week has gone by with no end in sight for the pandemic. Being able to distinguish weeks became a challenge months ago, so no surprises there. But the weather is getting colder and winter is coming (hopefully not Martin's winter - we had enough of that this year already). I used to love winter, I used to look forward to it. But for the past few years, it has tended to be a very gloomy season. I'm usually just looking forward to it ending. So, this year, it's going to be harder to get through the season, especially since we are all still mostly at home. Mind you, I don't mind the restrictions as they do have a useful purpose, but wish more people followed them well and that we had done a better job when the weather was warmer to keep the virus at bay so that it didn't have to last this long. But that argument probably won't stick anyways, as many countries are now facing second waves. At the end of the day, we really need a vaccine but I hope that isn…

Almost knocking at the door.. Indie Lit Awards

Have you guys been thinking about what books you would love to see in the Indie Lit Awards longlist this year? I hope so, because nominations will be open in September, and that's just a month away! (Seriously, I can't believe it's almost time to start thinking of books that will go on to the 2011 Best Of... lists! Have I even read enough books this year so far?

For the uninitiated, the Indie Lit Awards is the brainchild of the amazing Wallace, who you may know as the blogger over at Unputdownables. These are book awards given by literary bloggers to books released for the first time in 2011, irrespective of where it was released first. I loved following this award last year and am truly glad to be a voting member of the Fiction panel. There are more panels, so be sure to check out the full list, so that you can be sure not to miss updates on any other genre that you enjoy. There have been quite a few updates lately, that I am a little late to share, but there have been talk about it around the blogosphere, so I hope that you nevertheless did hear about them already.
  • You don't need to be a blogger to vote. If you love reading books, that's good enough for us. And I know that includes all of you passing by my blog, so be sure to get your favorite 2011 releases lists ready by the time nominations open!
  • Melody, who is the awesome Director of the Fiction panel, is keeping a running list of books eligible to be nominated for the Fiction panel. I've been feeding my favorite books as well into that list, as I'm sure many of her readers are. Since we panel members cannot vote, we're counting on you guys to vote your favorites, and Melody's list will hopefully serve as a memory-jogger. To check out the list she has, and to submit any missing books that you think should be on the list, head over to her blog.
  • Want to follow any blogs or bloggers on the Indie Lit Awards panels? There's a full list of panel members here.

So which 2011 release (any genre) would you love to see win this year's award?

I love following these awards, and will be looking back to see what's happening with it all. Congrats on scoring yourself a place on the fiction panel as well! I will have to sit and think for awhile on what books I'd like to see included.
