Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Infinite Country tells the story of her family through the other protagonist, El

The Sunday Salon: Activities Galore

The Sunday
Salon.com

Before typing up this post, I checked my post history to see when my last Sunday Salon was published. My guess was probably a month ago. But in truth, I haven't posted a Sunday Salon so far this year. That actually surprised me quite a bit. I typically enjoy the Sunday postings - I generally reserve the more personal news and goings-on for Sundays. Posting about books on Sundays sounds like working during the weekend. No?

Lately, it has been quite difficult to be able to post anything. Our parents had flown halfway across the world to be with us for a few months. And sometimes, we also have our brothers in town when they manage to take a week or weekend off school work. So, for the last couple of weeks, the evenings have been filled with hours of Monopoly card games. And then it could be TV or more games (Sims) afterwords. While that's a lot of fun, I do miss the constant blogging and have been trying to find out ways to squeeze that in. What - wake up earlier? NoThankYou.

It was a wonderfully warm day yesterday after weeks of cold and rain (not that I'm complaining), but I think I'm ready for Spring. Summer, not yet. We have tons of work to do around the house as well - the husband is planning to build some furniture and I'm eager to get our yard landscaped and have a garden set up. I'm also hoping that the weekends stay nice and warm so that we can get out more often.

Today the plan is to visit Yogaville, which is an ashram and yoga center combined. I had only recently heard of this place despite it being close by. Here's hoping that this visit will make me more invested in yoga.

As for books, I just finished Elie Wiesel's Night yesterday - which was amazing! I'm not sure yet what I will be reading next. I plan to buy the sequels to Night soon, but in the meantime, it's wonderful to just blindly choose something!

Oh, and totally disappointing about the one hour less sleep last night! Spring Forward definitely is less exciting that Fall Behind!

Enjoying your family is so much more important than blogging. I'm glad you all got to be together.

I hate the time changes because it's such a drag to have to go all over the house and change all the electronics! ... and then there's figuring out which ones have done it on their own and which ones are wrong! LOL

Yes, right about now (7:00pm) I am realizing that I got one hour less of sleep last night. Bummer. Not looking forward to Monday morning. We've been playing a lot of poker and yatzee lately, which is super fun

Doing board and card games is such fun! No wonder you were distracted. I hope you enjoy the yoga. I don't think I've ever had more than two subsequent classes, after that I lose interest. I've tried several times.

We play a tonne of card games too, but I have never thought of the Monopoly card game (I will even choose Mouse Trap and Twister over Monopoly)...maybe it's more fun than the board game version? (We do play board games too, but mostly older games as we haven't bought many new ones since I was playing with them myself!) And, hey, you posted on a Sunday this year...now!

These activities all sound like a lot of fun! I used to play The Sims a lot, but then I'd just play so much I felt a little like an addict :) I almost bought the new Sim City, but I'm worried what a time suck it would be.

Yogaville is kind of a funny name for a place so serene in nature.

We don't play too many board games or any games really in our house. But the kids do like Just Dance on the Wii so sometimes so once in awhile I will jump in and really embarrass myself.

I came to know about yogaville through a book called " the golden present" I bought from amazon, I love that book and ever since I have been wanting to visit Yogaville. May be when we visit LB, we should make a trip there
