Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Infinite Country tells the story of her family through the other protagonist, El

Readalong Alert! The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

The Goldfinch is one of the few books I must have seen everywhere lately. Most everyone has strongly recommended the title. Heck two other books by Donna Tartt also come heavily recommended, including The Secret History. So far, I am yet to read a review calling The Goldfinch bad or lackluster, but if you've seen or written one, let me know, because I like to keep my expectations in check.

When I mentioned hoping to read The Goldfinch before the end of the year, Natasha also mentioned her plans to read it by year end, and viola, a readalong was born. If you are interested in joining us for the ride, let me or Natasha know in the comments. We are planning to do it so informally that we haven't made any plans yet. We did decide not to have regular progress posts, but we will have some discussion post in the end.

I admit the size of the book intimidates me quite a bit. At 700-odd pages, it is a chunkster, though not as chunky as some of the chunkier books in the market. I'm not the fastest reader in the world, but I am curious enough about this book that I want to dive right in.

Care to join us?

Half of me wants to join along but I am a little reluctant because of how long it is! But so many people say it's worth it!

I would love too but just not sure if I can pull it off in time. :) Let me think about it ;)

You should join us! Even if it takes a while longer to finish, it will be worth it!

Don't worry about time. I'm not sure how soon I can finish it either but it should be a great way to end the year.

Me too! I cannot wait to start. I'm hoping to start reading this weekend.

I would so join you, if I wasn't half way through Les Mis. I can only do one chunkster at a time! I'll be looking forward to the posts though, this is a book I really want to get to soon.

Oh yeah, Les Mis is another one of those books I am not reading because of its size. Some day, another readalong will be coming.
I can't wait to get to this one. Sadly, I can't right now. I hope you enjoy it!
