Published : 2021 || Format : print || Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Infinite Country tells the story of her family through the other protagonist, El
Good morning Saloners! I have been very under the weather all of last week. It didn't help that work was busier than usual and happened to be the one week when I couldn't afford to take time off. I did work just a half day on Friday so that helped quite a bit and I'm hoping for a better week this time.
This week, the husband and I have been watching Game of Thrones on HBO Go. We have caught up with Seasons 1 and 2 and just started watching Season 3. All I can say is, What's wrong with you George Martin? Why do you kill off the good people and leave the world in bad hands. I'm nursing the hope that when the series finally ends, the trends will revert, but with George Martin, who knows. There are some characters like Joffrey Baratheon that drive me insane, so much so that I would love to obliterate him from the books completely. And then there are characters like Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow who make watching this show worth every dime. I really cannot wait to start reading these books - maybe next year is what I keep telling myself.
On the other hand, the return of The Walking Dead hasn't given me much thrill yet. The first two episodes have been very slow, and much as I always credit this show with its amazing character development, there's only so much of teen Carl's angst or creepy Lizzie's actions you can stretch out. I guess I feel the slow pacing acutely because I watched all the episodes until Season 4's mid-season finale, back-to-back, and suddenly, now I'm having to wait for the next episode. I think I prefer binge-watching shows. They keep the excitement running and get rid of the between-episode lulls. But then you are done with the show in a month and then what?
Next weekend, we are heading to DC to meet some relatives. It's also the husband's birthday the same weekend, plus my best friends are expecting their first. So much goodness to look forward to. The winter is also mostly over here - sure some days are still cold, but the other day, there was a beautiful whiff of spring air that had me skipping all the way to work. I've been thinking about our first vegetable garden and need to start planting something soon. On the knitting side, I've been wrapping up a cowl that I'll probably not use until next winter but I'm excited to start making shawls and stoles now. As for reading, I picked up Willy Vlautin's The Free couple of days ago, and this book is seriously amazing. I've heard a few of you rave about it already and I'm glad that I have it to read. What's happening in your corner?
