Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. A birthday week | Weekly Snapshot

Yikes, sorry about the two-week absence! Both life and work happened, and with that, my reading and blogging disappeared.

Life

We've had a lot going on during the past two weeks. My work got steadily busier over last two weeks and it looks like that will continue for a bit more. And to top it off, both kids got sick last week. It started with the boy getting an ear infection and then the girl got a cold and cough. It's been brutal because it feels like my daughter got much sicker than usual that I actually worried if this might be the dreaded C. Thankfully she tested negative and hopefully she will soon be freed from that nagging cough she still has.

Needless to say, my brain was shot for much of these two weeks and I haven't been able to read much of anything, whether books or blogs. Sorry everyone - I'm hoping to find some time this week to visit your blogs.

After all those worries, we had a nice fun last night - we had a few of our neighbors, all vaccinated, over for a little get-together - it was a combination of giving a farewell to one family who are moving to a new town and a birthday party for our boy who turned three this week! I was a little disappointed we had so much sickness during a birthday week, but oh well, both kids had fun.

This upcoming week is the last week of school for both of them. From next week onwards through the summer, we'll be doing some daycare and some summer camp. Plus we have our island vacation coming up soon too.

Reading

There's only one book I'm reading and it's The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz - I'm late finishing this in time for its release but I'm enjoying it a lot and do want to share my thoughts.

I'm not sure what I'll read after this one but I'm going to follow my mood for a while. I'm still pretty tired after the past two weeks.

On the blog

How are you doing? I hope you have some fun things going.
