Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. The two week update | Weekly Snapshot

Oh yikes, this once-in-two-week blogging routine better not be a habit. I hope it's just an indication of how busy July can get with planning for a birthday and doing different summer things.

Life

The girl had her birthday party today with friends from school and she had a fun day! It was nice seeing the kids have fun outside of school and take over the bouncy event place like they knew every corner of it. I was grateful for everyone who were brave enough to come to a party despite recent rises in case count. Thankfully most or all of us were vaccinated so that made the decision-making easier.

Now that the party is behind me, I have a ton of things to get back to. I am hoping for a quieter week ahead and a chance to catch up on a few things.

Reading

I honestly haven't read much in the last two weeks. Well, at least not prose. Instead, I've been reading Marvel Comics. Don't ask. So far, I've read Thor: Son of Asgard and Wolverine's Origin stories. Loved all of them so I likely will continue reading more from Marvel. Yes, this started after I watched some of the recent Marvel shows.

I'm still hoping to read Members Only by Sameer Pandya soon and may try to spend some time with a physical book this week for a change.

Watching

Since my last update, the season finale of Loki came on air. It was a somewhat underwhelming finish but very excited for where this is all going next. We also finally watched WandaVision (loved it) and started watching The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. (You can see why I started reading some Marvel comics lately.) In the middle of all this, Never Have I Ever returned for a second season and I totally binged it.

I'll keep this short for now and hope to be back sooner rather than later. How's everyone doing?
