Reading on a Rainy Day

#Snomaggeddon! We were snowed in last weekend. I was working from home on Friday - well, working as well as I could with a feisty six month old who didn't nap as much or as long as her mom would like her to. But snow days have their own charm too even if all I like to do is stare at the snow. For all that long weekend fun, I came down with something on Sunday that shut me down for two days. So I was out on Monday as well trying to recuperate. Shreya turned six months last week! I had been waiting for this milestone from the day she was born. I knew she was going to be more interactive by then (she did start being more feisty at the four month point itself actually). Besides, the six month point was when I wanted to start her on solids (which is going shakily, btw). Wow, I've been writing this post since this morning. So much for a yay, I'm blogging  post. On the plus side, as someone commented on this blog a month ago, I am discovering a new normal around here. I can't say the current routine (or lack thereof) is making me super happy, since I am a creature of routine and predictability and babies scoff at routine and predictability. But, I'm finding comfort in being able to spend even a minute doing something I always took for granted, be it taking a shower or brushing my teeth (yes, this!), or even reading blogs or writing a blog post. Happy Sunday! It's been a little more than three weeks since my last regular post though it doesn't feel that long. The last three weeks have been a blur of sleepless nights, a ton of feedings, and trying to get some rest whenever I can. Shreya will be three weeks old tomorrow and I'm amazed that she's even been here that long, especially considering how impatient I was during the last few weeks of my pregnancy waiting for this perfect bundle to arrive. I wrote this blog post yesterday, when I was running on a productivity high and had plenty of time to do a lot of things. That was a good thing because I didn't sleep a wink last night, and only just now got a few minutes to load this post into Blogger. Shreya, at 8 lbs 1 oz and 21.5" tall, was born on July 20, after a very long labor. Already, she's slightly older than a week and I have become depressingly aware that time is going to fly and she is not going to be the same little peanut that she was even a week ago. Right now, I am exhausted. I have heard many moms use that word and although I believed it then, you need to actually experience this exhaustion to know what it really means. Looking after a newborn is tiring. It's also super rewarding especially when it's 3 AM and you are extremely sleepy but staring at you is this perfect pair of happy eyes that don't look remotely sleepy.
