Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Infinite Country tells the story of her family through the other protagonist, El

I'm so glad this week is over! It was one of my busiest, since starting this semester, and it just might get busier. I didn't get much time this week to blog or even read blogs, which can be proved by the crazy number of unread items on my reader. Since I already had a panic attack on seeing that, I think you should see as well!

Crazy, huh? Would be good if I had a way to pause things so that nobody blogs when I can't catch up on them. ::wink::

I did have a relatively better success at reading than blogging. I finished Say you're one of them (review will be out tonight), Rainwater, and City of Ashes, and am now neck-deep in The Help, the book I've been waiting for since last October!

We just got some heavy snow this weekend, since Friday morning. I was so glad to see the alert message from my university that morning, just 10 minutes before my alarm, informing that university is closed for the day, which meant I could just switch off all alarms and curl back under my covers. The unexpectedly-gained couple of hours of sleep is a wonderful thing!

On to other Sunday things, I got two wonderful awards over the last week!

Marg @ Reading Adventures gave me the Dragon's Loyalty Award! Thanks, Marg!! :-) It's quite a pleasure reading your blog and doing the Library Loot meme!

This award is for those followers who are the most loyal and give bloggers joy by commenting regularly and giving their support. Pass it on to 3 to 7 followers who are as loyal as dragons.

Since I passed this on last week, I am not passing it this time. But thanks again to all my wonderful followers!

I also received the Prolific Blogger Award from Cat @ Tell me a Story, one of my favorite blogs! Thank you Cat!!

A Prolific Blogger is one who is intellectually productive… keeping up an active blog that is filled with enjoyable content.
  1. Every winner of the Prolific Blogger Award has to pass on this award to at least seven other deserving prolific bloggers. Spread some love!
  2. Each Prolific Blogger must link to the blog from which he/she has received the award.
  3. Every Prolific Blogger must link back to this post, which explains the origins and motivation for the award.
  4. Every Prolific Blogger must visit this post and add his/her name in the Mr. Linky, so that we all can get to know the other winners. (Click here for the Mr. Linky page.)
That sounds great, doesn't it? So here's who I am passing it on to!
  1. Kristen @ BookNAround
  2. J.Kaye @ J.Kaye's Book Blog
  3. Vicki @ Reading at the Beach
  4. Jennifer @ Rundpinne
  5. Alayne @ The Crowded Leaf
  6. Jennifer G. @ The Introverted Reader
  7. Aye.Me? @ Reversing the Monotony
Happy reading and Happy Blogging!

I was surprised when your school was closed down - it's the first time that's happened since my son's been there. Don't stress over you reader - do what you can and use the mark as read button. Congratulations on your awards!

Congratulations on receiving those awards! I can completely relate to not getting around to all of the blogs in my feed reader. The numbers are so ridiculous in mine that I just mark all read about once a week when it hits over 3000 posts. I have no self-control when it comes to adding feeds to my reader, but I do have a favorites folder so I can visit my top 40.
I just found your blog on Book Blogs! I think you have a new follower...

But anyways, I can relate when you say that you're busy with school. I'm not in university so it isn't that bad, but my semester right now is so hectic. Happy reading!

Thank you so much, Aths!

Enjoy The Help! I'm #83 on my library's wait list. Maybe I'll have it in a few months!

Congrats on your awards and thanks so much for passing one to me!!

I'm behind on my reader too~

My reader frequently gets out of control and while it bugs me not to keep up, sometimes it's the best option I have, marking everything as read. :-)

Thanks for the award too! Given my procrastinatory (is this a word) habits, I'll probably pass it along sometime before the end of the year. LOL!

Kathy, I agree that was the first time our school closed down coz of the whether. They usually open late, like around 10 am, if the weather is bad. I'm not complaining still. ;-)

Juju, Piyush, thanks!

Alyce, 3000 did you say?? I think I feel better now. ;-)

Emidy, thanks for stopping by! School can really upset some best-laid plans!

Jennifer, you're welcome! Will wait for your review of The Help, when you get the copy! PS: the wait is totally worth it! :)

Vicki, you're welcome! Glad I'm not alone on playing catch-up with the reader.

Kristen, I try to use the Mark all as Read as well. Though sometimes, I get paranoid that I'll miss on some really important posts by doing that! :-( And you're welcome! :)
