Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Infinite Country tells the story of her family through the other protagonist, El

It's Monday! What are you reading? -- Mar 08, 2010

It's Monday! What are you reading this week?
This is a weekly event initially hosted by J. Kaye at J. Kaye's Book Blog, now by Sheila @ One Persons Journey through a world of Books, to celebrate what you are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week.

Books completed last week
Both books weren't on my list for last week, so I guess my decision to be impulsive is paying off!
- City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
- Fireworks over Toccoa by Jeffrey Stepakoff

I am currently reading

Liar by Justine Larbalestier: 4 more discs left, but it has gotten really really interesting. I'm pretty curious to know how this is going to end!

White Oleander by Janet Fitch: This was on my list last week as well, but I had to set it aside to read a couple of books that came in for review.

My reading plans for the next week

Last Night in Montreal by Emily St. John Mandel: I'm reading this one for the Spotlight Series, and had planned to read this one last week, but am yet to open it.

The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs: I'm not sure if I'll read this one, but hopefully, I will. I renewed it for the 2nd time, and if I don't read it by then, I'm giving up for now.

I can't wait to see how you like White Oleander. It's one that I've had on lists ever since the movie came out (Even though I haven't seen the movie) but just haven't read yet.

PS - I'm ordering your prize book from Amazon right now, so it should be to your house within the week!

Still haven't read Liar Liar but plan too soon. Have a great week.
I'll be looking forward to your reviews! Fireworks Over Toccoa doesn't actually sound like my kind of book, but I'm really interested in it for some reason. Enjoy your books!

I have White Oleander on my bookshelf. Maybe I should read it right now since I don't really know what to read next. No books coming in from the library hold list, no books bought from Borders, nothing in the mail.

Hmmm, I think I will! Then we can compare notes :)

Have a great week.

I've been curious about The Friday Night Knitting Club. It is always checked out at the library. How did you enjoy City of Glass? I loved that series and I'm looking forward to the next book. What did you think of Fireworks Over Toccoa? I have it to read but haven't started it yet.I hope you enjoy all your books.

Here is what I'm reading.
I am going to have to break down and get Liar...... now I have to decide - book or audio.... :)

Have a wonderful week!

Deb K, thanks a lot! :)

Dana, I'll be *hopefully* finishing both by this weekend!

Helen, I have to get to Knitting club, asap!

Michelle, I hope I will read White Oleander asap! For some reason, I keep putting it away. And thanks for the book again! Yay! I'll keep an extra eye on the post! :)

Jan von Harz, you have a great week too!

Jennifer G., I hope you will read Fireworks over Toccoa! I loved it!

Lynne, Yes please!! I'd love to discuss with you, Apparently, it's discussion material too!

Christina, I liked City of Glass much better than the previous two books! I'm glad it all tied back well in the end! Fireworks over Toccoa was awesome! I LOVED it!

Sheila, umm, unless you are an audio buff, I wouldn't recommend it. The narrator is so shrilly, it's jangling my nerves!

I've checked out and returned Liar without reading it far too many times. Somehow it always gets pushed to the bottom of the pile. :/ How are you liking it?
I need to put The Friday Night Knitting Club on my list of vacation reads - in the event that I actually do take a vacation in the near future.
Happy reading!

Ah, someone closer to my own reading speed. I feel overwhelmed sometimes.

I enjoy learning about what you read.

Cat, I am guilty of pushing that read twice already! I HAVE to read it this week!

NatalieSap, Liar is actually pretty interesting and I think the reading experience will be better than the listening experience for that book! You should try it sometime!

susan, thanks a lot! :)
