Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Yet another Monday! (Nov 14, 2011)

It's Monday! What are you reading this week?

Sheila @ One Persons Journey through a world of Books wants to know what we're reading. I'm only too happy to oblige!

I had one of those good reading weeks, when I seemed to be with a book always and even managed to finish a couple.

Books finished since the last update
-  Good Neighbors by Ryan David Jahn (I loved this book!)
-  The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka (And this one too!)

News from over my blog

Reviews up!
-   The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks
-   Green River Killer by Jonathan Case and Jeff Jensen

Books on my nightstand
I didn't get to any of the books I meant to read last week, so I have one of them still on my stand.

NeuromancerNeuromancer by William Gibson: From the father of cyberpunk himself, I'm so far intrigued by the world he created and the techie undercurrents through the book.
Cross CurrentsCross Currents by John Shors: I read a few pages from this book, and it certainly is beautiful and engaging. I didn't make much progress yet, but considering that the book starts on Dec 18, six days before the tsunami, I can't wait to see what happens.

I just finished The Buddha in the Attic last night, and am looking forward to starting the Rachel Dupree book today, as well as taking a chunk out of Unbroken on audio for my book club Thursday. I once tried to read Neuromancer, but had some trouble getting into it. Perhaps I should try again...

Enjoy your book. I had another quiet week of reading. School and nanowrimo are eating up a lot of my spare reading time. Please come see what I'm reading.

How are you liking Tumblr? I started one, but I have to admit I have neglected it for some time. I was just thinking I need to update it. But having one blog on blogger is enough, so I don't know where I'll find the time, but it's on my to do list of things to tackle this weekend.

First week of December?  I want to get through The Stone Diaries which I just started before I read your msg and then I will be ready.    YOu'll probably be able to squeeze in a few between?!

I actually like the concept of posting random thoughts on a non-twitter website. Also, having a focus helped, or else I might have abandoned it long ago. Still, I agree, maintenance is a lot of work.

Ha ha! Sounds good! I will definitely try to squeeze in a few in between, and be ready for December!
