Hello, fellow readers and bloggers! Hope you've got a good book that you are lost in currently.
Life
This was a much needed slower week after weeks of the other kind. Work was busy until Wednesday and then it got quieter, so that helped me have the mental energy to do other things.
The girl's birthday is in 10 days (yes, both my daughter and I share the same birthday month) and we are planning a small party during the following weekend. Guess what theme she wants? Yes, princesses. I wish little girls aspired for more than most of the pink stuff that's paraded at them in the stores. Anyways, I'll be doing some planning for this and trying to pull it together.
There's been another big thing going on for the past couple of months. We've been meeting with a contractor to renovate our kitchen and do hardwood throughout the main floor. It's going to be somewhat massive of an undertaking but we are excited for the end result. We still have several finishes to decide and kitchen layout to finalize but in a little more than a month, we expect to start the project.
Last night, we had a nice dinner at our neighbor's place. Their daughter and our kids get along superbly so they had lots of fun while the rest of us had a good time catching up. Sometime today, we have two friends and their kids visiting us but other than that, this week may be quiet.
Reading
I finally finished The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi and loved it. Even with the 'death' word on the book and promise of lots of sadness in the book, which there was, I found this book to be more of a celebration of a life. It tore me up but it also made me believe in humanity's ability to love. If you haven't read it yet, do bump it up your list - you won't regret it. (Trigger warning: death of a son.)
I haven't started my next book, instead returned to a little business reading (The Lean Startup by Eric Ries). But sometime today, I plan to start Members Only by Sameer Pandya (very interesting premise and a focus on race from a different angle).
Watching
Oh man, last episode of Loki coming up, and I'm already missing it. Loki is my favorite good guy/bad guy character from the Marvel universe but he was more good guy here so he didn't feel as fun. But the show has still been good so far and I hope that when this ends, there is a way for him to come back to the movies on the same screen as Thor - there seems to be signs that he may have a way back, so we'll see. Now that will be fun.
