Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Yet another Monday! (July 4, 2011)

It's Monday! What are you reading this week?

Sheila @ One Persons Journey through a world of Books wants to know what we're reading. I'm only too happy to oblige!

The first of my long weekends is just getting over today, but I am so looking forward to the rest of them this month and the next. While I have a few trips planned during some of the weekends, I'm looking forward to more reading and blogging during the rest.
News from over my blog
Reviews up!
Books on my nightstand
I like the pile of books that I'm looking forward to reading next from my Orange list and otherwise. Right now, I have a couple of books going that are both pretty good.

Hello GoodbyeHello Goodbye by Emily Chenoweth: I hadn't made much progress into this book until two days ago. I'm not too far in yet, but the writing is very beautiful so far.
ShantaramShantaram by Gregory David Roberts: I'm finally getting caught up with Shantaram for the readalong after so long. I know I am weeks behind, but I am finally able to read this book without "fearing" interruptions.

Misha  Shantaram is entertaining so far! I don't really like some of the caricaturing happening, but otherwise it is written very well!

I can't wait to post either. Right now, I'm weeks behind on everything, so I'm just taking it all one step at a time.

I also can't wait to hear what you think of Shantaram. I remember it being a dense read, but also very good. There was a film version slated for release last year, starring Johnny Depp as Lin, but that seems to have gone off the radar. Too bad!

My reading list consists of a lot of picture books read with my children, as well as the manga I've been reading with my oldest.   Come see what I read.
