Infinite Country by Patricia Engel | Thoughts

Published : 2021   ||    Format : print   ||    Location : Colombia ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆   What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise.. Thoughts : Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Infinite Country tells the story of her family through the other protagonist, El

The Sunday Salon: What a crazy July!

Have you guys also noticed an odd leaf yellowing and falling down? Because, the other day, I was greeted with a bunch of them just fluttering about. It's certainly too early for Fall, but heck am I ready for it! The heat's insanely intense I'm surprised that I haven't vaporized yet. I spent a good amount of July on the road and on a flight I'd rather not talk about. So it's surprising I got any reading done. Quite a few of my reads are Newbery medal winners and graphic novels, so that kind of explains it. On the plus side, I can finally say that I've found my ideal summer read - a graphic novel.

What a great week of reading! And I love seeing the map in the post. I'll have to do that next time I do a month in review. It's so satisfying to seeing all the pegs, isn't it?

Leaves falling already? Bring it on! I do love Autumn than any other season. Looks like you had a great July and as crazy as my July! :)

Oh, I wish it were time for the leaves to be falling here! It's Florida, so it's only, like, 100 degrees out there everyday, and it seems like summer lasts until October! I know what you mean about feeling like you could vaporize! I am glad that you are liking the graphic novels. I need to peruse a few of these myself! I hope you have an excellent reading week!

I was just noticing some yellow leaves the other day.  I do like fall, but I'd rather skip the snow that follows!  And I love the map.  I track this with my shelves on GoodReads, but I like the map idea.

I checked out a bunch of graphic novels from the library the other day, mostly ones that you had recommended!  They seem to be all I have the brain power for in this heat.

Enjoy your week!

I noticed the leaves here in So Cal last friday. They were all yellow and crispy from the 100+ degree temps...falling here and there. The quality of light is saying Fall but the temps still say Summer.
Bud, Not Buddy is a staple in my house. Every one of my kids has read it. It's a fantastic book. I've heard great things about The Secret Lives....  Well, it's still hot here in my neck of the woods. Autumn is my favorite season of the year. I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah, I absolutely love looking at the reading map! It's one of the nerdiest, geekiest, most fabulous reading-related things I've done, lol!
